2003: SOLO SOUND SCULPTURES

SOLO EXHIBITION

24 April – 17 May 2003

Studio 77

Cape Town, South Africa

Uwe Pfaff’s ‘Solo Sound Sculptures’ feature standing artworks in ceramic, wood and steel, as well as his signature cut-out steel tableaux. The free-standing metal sculptures (forms, mythological creatures, figures and skulls) reveal an acoustic ability when struck with gong sticks. Expressing the ‘kid with a hammer’ in each of us, the Flying Cow Gratuitous Noise Ensemble ‘played’ these ‘sound sculptures’ in a live performance on the opening night. Bursting with parallel potential, Uwe’s artworks reveal that heavy metal, too, can literally sing a sensual sonic aria.
